Joanne Armitage - Algobabez (UK)
Joanne is an internationally recognised live coder and contributes to projects including laptop ensemble, OFFAL and algo-pop duo ALGOBABEZ. Recent projects include a coding cultural exchange between Yorkshire and Tokyo funded by Arts Council England, British Council, Daiwa Foundation and Sasakawa Foundation. She was a recent recipient of Sound and Music’s Composer-Curator fund.
She currently lectures in Digital Media at the School of Media and Communication, University of Leeds. Her work covers areas such as physical computing, digital methods, sensory data and critical computing. In 2017 she was awarded the British Science Association’s Daphne Oram award for digital innovation. Joanne is soon joining the Department of Sociology at Cambridge University to work as a researcher on the Citizen Sense project.
